Gerald Glen “Jake” Trewin, son of Merle and Lucille Tubbs Trewin, was born October 11, 1941, at home in rural Waucoma, Iowa. He was baptized at the home of his uncle, Glen in Alpha by the minister of the Alpha United Methodist Church. Jake received his education in the country school near his home and graduated in 1960, from Fredericksburg High School.
He served with the U.S. Army in the Airborne Division and was discharged in 1964. Jake made his home on the family farm in rural Waucoma. He farmed and also did carpenter work for many years.
His death occurred on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at his rural Waucoma home. He was sixty-nine years old and a longtime member of Ott-Stedman Post #623, American Legion of Alpha where he had served as post commander. He loved to hunt and especially enjoyed fishing.
Jake is survived by his father, Merle Trewin of rural Waucoma; two brothers, Harlan (Denise) Trewin of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and James (Cheryl) Trewin of Bend, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille in 2006, and a sister, Martha Mary in 1947.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye with Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the funeral home on Wednesday. Interment will be at Alpha Cemetery with military rites by Ott-Stedman Post #623, American Legion of Alpha and Arnold-Rogers Post #312, American Legion of Hawkeye. All are invited to the Alpha United Methodist Church following the committal service for a time of fellowship and lunch.
